George Birrell trained at the
Glasgow School of Art and started painting full time in 1998 after a career
as a lecturer and teacher in art and design. He is a frequent contributor to
The Scotttish Societies including the Royal Academy. He is interested in the
architecture of the East Coast towns and the fishing villages of Scotland.
Inspired by the east coast of Scotland, its architecture and
evidence of the hand of man on the landscape. Vigorous handling and strong
design are ahallmarks of his painting.
Simplification and stylisation, strong colour and bold composition
are an emotional expression of feeling about
the subject.
