Jack studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art under
David McClure, Jack Knox and his uncle Alberto
Morrocco. His reputation has grown as one of the
new wave of Scottish Colourists sharing influences
and traditional values to produce canvasses soaked with vibrant
Mediterranean colour. His cleverly constructed
still lifes set lutes, sun, toucans, masks or melons against
a backdrop of juxtaposed shapes and dazzling colours to create a
unique visual rhythm. In contrast his traditional
still lifes show masterful skill to convey the effect of light
and reflection on silverware, glass and
shimmering fruit with enamouring results. This
quality can be seen in his sensual nudes; subtle skintones are enhanced by
dramatic dark backgrounds showing a masterly
command as a figurative painter, perhaps an echo
of his Italian ancestry
Jack’s work is now widely collected with examples in a number of major
collections in the UK and in private collections
worldwide.
