Sandy McIntosh graduated from the
Glasgow School of Art in 1993. The same year some of his paintings were shown in the
"New Scottish Art" exhibition at the Compass Gallery in Glasgow. Since then his
work has regualrly been shown at the Annual Exhibitions of the Royal Glasgow Institute,
the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour - to
which he was elected a member in 1999. In 1998 Sandy won the RSW Alexander Graham Munro
Travel Award (and as result his first one-man show - at the Kelly Gallery in Glasgow -
followed). The award gave him the opportunity to travel to Japan. Sandy
writes...."Travelling in Japan and particularly the ideas of Ritual, Heritage
and a completely different persepctive to visual language have had a profound influence on
my work.As well as the food I saw and ate there. Both the preparation and presentation of
Japanese food has found a place in many of my recent paintings."
Since his return from Japan Sandy's work has been shown with great success at Frames
Gallery, Perth. Thomsons Gallery and Richmond Hill - as well as here at the Manor House
Gallery. We believe that Sandy is a really outstanding young Scottish talent. |
