Georgie Young
was born in 1949 in
Ayrshire, Scotland. She is a
graduate of Glasgow School of Art and paints mainly contemporary Scottish
landscapes. Her work aims to evoke a feeling and capture a sense of place,
an atmosphere or an unexpected detail rather than reproduce a direct
likeness. It is an attempt to reveal the unexpected beauty of unremarked
places, the interplay of light, time, weather and season on everyday
landscape. She paints primarily in acrylic using a bold palette and layers
of rich textures. For many years Georgie Young lived, taught and painted in
Ayrshire. She now lives in Edinburgh. Recent
exhibitions include 2002
