Ronald Smith was born in Glasgow in 1946. He graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1969 – when he also won two travelling scholarships (the Carnegie Scholarship from the RSA and the Haldane Scholarship). He became a teacher and has been Principal Teacher of Art and Design at Bellshill Academy since 1979.In 1987 Ronald won the David Cargill Award at the Royal Glasgow Institute where he was elected a member in 1999.He has been a regular exhibitor at the RGI since 1969 and has taken part in Mixed Shows at the Compass Gallery, Collins Gallery and John D. Kelly Gallery – all in Glasgow. More recently he has been regularly featured in exhibitions at the Ainscough Contemporary Art Gallery in London. For the last few years he has participated in The Scottish Show at Thompson’s Gallery in London.
